Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to inform you that the General Assembly has listened to our concerns and is taking formal action to address problems at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. In its draft resolution, to be formally adopted this week, the General Assembly: Rejects new financial rules proposed by the fund's board - we had argued that the rules would pave the way for the removal of the fund from the UN, allow the fund to choose an alternative auditor to OIOS, and circumvent UN rules on procurement.
Dear Colleagues, Staff representatives met in New York from November 1-4 to agree common positions on key issues being tabled by the Secretary General at the ongoing session of the General Assembly, and to discuss strategies for lobbying Member States. We made two key interventions at the GA as follows: Common System Issues (Pension Fund crisis, conditions of service for security services, the negative impact of the compensation review, and separation payments for staff with fixed term contracts). The statement can be found here.
