SG GUTERRES CONVENES EARLY MEETING WITH STAFF UNIONS

Dear Colleagues, Happy New Year! Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's first meeting within an hour of entering the UN building on Tuesday, was with the staff unions. At the VTC meeting, staff proposed ways for the UN Secretariat to: make mobility more staff friendly by simplifying and accelerating the process of recruitment and deployment; make performance management more relevant and meaningful for career development; provide better protection to whistle blowers; -protect jobs during implementation of the the Global Service Delivery Model;

GA SUPPORTS STAFF UNIONS' POSITION ON PENSION FUND CRISIS

Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to inform you that the General Assembly has listened to our concerns and is taking formal action to address problems at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. In its draft resolution, to be formally adopted this week, the General Assembly: Rejects new financial rules proposed by the fund's board - we had argued that the rules would pave the way for the removal of the fund from the UN, allow the fund to choose an alternative auditor to OIOS, and circumvent UN rules on procurement.
